During the Endo period, (17th-19th century) in Japan, where dye was expensive and colourful robes restricted to the upper class, commoners would dye their inner linings to show their off to others in the same class. Today, we all use colour to reflect our various moods, to express ourselves and our emotions to others, whether we’re feeling richly royal or more humble and down to earth.
